PDF/X-3; moving to an RGB Workflow

Postby PeterKleinheider » Thu Jan 04, 2007 2:47 am

Hi

I read the article: http://www.foliomag.com/viewmedia.asp?prmMID=6870

You write about moving to a RGB workflow. I completely agree with you. But how do you handle vector elements and their conversion?

The other issue BPC. This information can not be transfered with a Profile or as definition inside a PDF.

What are your thoughts about all of that?

I love the RGB workflow. But.. I keep all my illustrator logo's in CMYK or SPOT. And I save them without a profile.

If you designed your artwork for coated stock, and now go to newsprint, do you use the same PDF, or do you first alter the logo's?

My idea to achive "device independence with DeviceColor": Use a DeviceLink Profile to convert from the PDF/X Output Intent to the used printing condition, and then do an ICC based conversion to the new Output Intent.

Yes, you could do that. But I like to keep it as simple as possible. Since my clients have always seen their logo's like this (100 cyan/100Yellow for example) I don't think it's a good idea to introduce to them the way their logo should actually look in the newspaper. I know it's wat I'm suppose to do but they'll just think it's wrong when they see it printed different from normal...

So CMYK logo's without profile it is for now. Perhaps with new clients, I'll add RGB logo's with RGB profile.
